The 8 Brocades set is practiced by millions of people all over the world. It’s an easy and efficient routine to use daily to help the physical body stay strong, flexible and resilient -- Good for all levels! I will balance this more active 8 Brocades set with a very gentle series of warm up exercises called “coiling silk”. Coiling silk or silk reeling means to slowly turn parts of the body on an axis to dissolve knotted energy, restoring flow and balance.

A fun introductory class! Our intention is for you to be able to 1) sense and feel your Qi (chi), and 2) experience the unique quality of energy that qigong creates - a beautiful mixture of energy and calm!
Keeping it simple this week with an introductory style class. The ancients' observations, honed over centuries, resulted in a highly complex system for maintaining health. But the nice thing about Qigong is you don’t need to understand its depth and complexity to be able to jump right in and begin to experience its benefits. Qigong transforms stress into vitality with 2 main phases - let go, and fill up. Let go of stagnation (tension), and fill up with qi (life force energy)!

This week we are delving into summer qigong for the first time with a class called Warm Heart . Come join us for this all levels, drop-in class designed to strengthen the heart system, and brighten & lift the spirit, infusing it with a soft warmth.
Everyone is different. Some people need more yang energy in the heart to help lift, open and shine the heart energetically. Some need more yin energy to help cool, clear and protect the heart, and some people are already well-balanced and can therefore benefit from strengthening & smoothing the qi. I'll be including some crane-style qigong, the animal associated with cooling and calming the qi of the heart.

“Ji Ben” in Chinese means “basic, foundational or fundamentals”. So “Ji Ben Qigong” can translate as fundamentals for working with life force energy. It is eight flowing exercises meant to be done in sequence, much like the 8 Pieces of the Silk Brocades. The overall goal is of course supporting longevity and maintaining health. More specifically, the forms are designed to help you release layers of tension in the tissue, restructure your form, and sink your Qi through relaxation. Overtime this starts to refashion the body, preparing it for more advanced internal practices.

The Wood Element is associated with spring and the liver organ system, which includes the liver’s partner organ, the gallbladder. This means that their energy is at its peak in spring. Building the health of your liver in spring helps to maintain the balance of your whole body during this season and creates a healthy foundation for summer.

This week look for a little extra emphasis on cleansing stagnation from the body, mind and emotions, an important part of cultivating new energy. Clearing techniques help restore vital energy to our physical bodies, and reconnect us with our original soul essence and the emotional qualities of love, trust, compassion, joy, inner strength and wisdom.

Lose yourself and find yourself for a little while in the effortless moving meditations that are the Qigong flows.
A foundational practice with a flow set that moves "chi" in every direction and through every major meridian, strengthening and balancing the body. We’ll start with our regular Daoyin-style standing stretches, and progress to the five flowing tai chi like movements, each one replicating a different element of nature. 5 Element Qigong is a great daily practice and students will be sent a video they can do at home following the class.

Qi Gong has many tools for cultivating a long, fulfilling, and energized life. Let's gather together on this last day of 2022, and set a collective intention for getting "energetically" fit in 2023!
Focusing on exercises that clear and strengthen the lung channel, the meridians associated with the metal element and fall - clearing out old ways and unresolved issues, and letting go of built up grief—leaving an open space within which new ideas and emotions take shape
Come feel the power and mystery of your Qi. Qigong uses mind, breath and movement to draw us into the present moment, cultivating more freedom and ease in our bodies, and more moments of wonder and awe in our lives.
Qigong is the art of breathing, posture and movement to build and circulate Qi (vital energy). This week we continue with our focus on quieting the mind and accessing the flow state. Get ready to wake up your qi with some gentle yet powerful stretches, and smooth out its flow through the internal organs with slow, fluid, meditative movements.
A well-rounded class to release stress, increase energy, and balance the major meridian channels in the body. When qi is not flowing smooth can feel overwhelmed or overexerted more easily. With balance comes inner strength and softer feelings of warm heartedness & joy.
